Hey there! This is TOP episode 153. Summer Vocabulary: Fun Practice

My name’s Ola and I am an English teacher. I teach online during 1:1 and group classes. I believe you can eliminate your language blockade. The secret word here is consistency. There are other secret words too. That is why I record this podcast’s episodes, and each comes with a little worksheet, a one-pager to help you digest and test what you’ve practised here. You can speak English more confidently, slay that fear and enjoy easy communication.

Visit my website for full transcripts and worksheets to each episode. Visit my shop at teacherola.com and enjoy your journey to fluency! Happy learning!

Hello hello! Thank you for showing up! Today we’re going to practice. It’s gonna be different again! There’s no practical part at the end of the episode! Instead, we’re gonna have an intensive speaking training. The topic of this class is Summer. I picked 4 groups of 5 words in each group. You will hear the words and then repeat them. After that I’m gonna say a sentence I made with all five of the words! Your challenge is to repeat this long sentence. Later there’s another challenge for you. Make your own sentence. Use 5, 4, 3, 2, or just one of the words in a particular group.

Before we jump into our intensive and fun vocabulary training I have to tell you a few things. Firstly, group lessons. I’m teaching groups now! Let me know if you want to try! Classes are organised into packets of 13 classes that take place twice a week. Intensive English Speaking course! Conversations, communication, language blockade elimination. If you’re interested please send an email at contact@teacherola.com or dm me on Instagram.

Secondly, top talks. Every Thursday at 11 am I go live just for a quick chat, 20 minutes or so to discuss some language-related tips. You’ll find me as teacherola.podcast. So join me on Thursday at 11:00 live on Instagram!

Visit my shop, buy a Worksheet set, and have your Worksheets in one place. They’re editable. You can complete them on your smartphone.  Check out my e-book with episode transcripts.

Lastly, I am working on my Speak English With Tv Series course, a programme focused on one skill only, speaking. If you’re wondering whether such a course is right for you grab a checklist, the link is in the description. Thank’s for your patience and let’s get back to the episode.

So, here we go. Summer words. Listen and repeat. I’m going to give you 5 words and then I’ll make one sentence with all of them, ok? Then I’d like you to make your own sentence with at least one of the words. Make up the sentence and say it out loud. I’ll guide you all the way, so let’s go. Let’s begin:

flippers

flip-flops

goggles

a lifebuoy

a seagull

Please focus, the long sentence is coming. Try to memorise it and repeat it out loud.

I want my flippers, not flip-flops and please stop telling me about that seagull wearing goggles and a lifebuoy!

Now please make one sentence of your own. You can include 5, 4, 3, 2, or just one word from the list. I’ll say the list again: flippers, flip-flops, goggles, a lifebuoy, a seagull.

Now say your sentence out loud.

Well done! Now, the second set of summer words:

a seashell

a snorkel

a suitcase

a sunscreen

a surfboard

Listen to this sentence and repeat it out loud:

I found a seashell and I’m gonna put it in my suitcase but wait, I don’t know where my snorkel is and give me back my surfboard, you still have some sunscreen on your hands!

Your turn. Make a sentence with one or two or three or four or all of the five words: a seashell, a snorkel, a suitcase, a sunscreen, a surfboard.

Now say your sentence out loud.

Another group of summer words. Let’s hear them:

a backpack

a tent

a lighthouse

a cabin

canoeing

Listen to this sentence I made:

I left my backpack in the tent and headed off to a lighthouse from the top of which I saw a cabin and a canoeing couple.

Now go ahead and make your own sentence. Use some of these words: a backpack, a tent, a lighthouse, a cabin, canoeing.

Tell us your sentence now!

Finally, the last set of summer words. Listen and repeat:

hiking

deck chair

a beach vendor

a guidebook

sunburn

My sentence with all of the words we’ve just practiced. Listen and try to repeat:

I’m going hiking with a beach vendor because he has a solid guidebook and he knows how to avoid sunburn when you’re sitting in a deck chair.

Now please try and make your sentence with some of these words: hiking, deck chair, a beach vendor, a guidebook, sunburn.

Say the sentence out loud.

Please don’t forget to write your sentences somewhere!
