Being fluent means being able to react properly to the situation. So it means that you can forget words, right? We are not walking and talking dictionaries. People raised in English speaking countries also forget words. You forget polish words. That’s important to remember that it’s not a shame to forget words. Secondly, it’s not even your mother tongue! Forgetting words in second language is only natural. Look, you can communicate in a foreign language, you know at least two languages, wow! Give yourself some grace and allow mistakes, allow slips of the tongue, allow yourself to forget words. Ok. Now. Once again. Fluency is the ability to express yourself, to communicate, to react in a conversation. What it means is that you need to know what to say, how to react in various situations. For instance when you forget words.

Let’s get down to our list of expressions you can use when you forget words in english.

If you forget a word you can describe it. Use synonyms, for example:

It’s similar to a cat but bigger. It’s similar to.

It’s a kind of medicine you take when you feel pain. It’s a kind of.

It’s how you feel when you’re extremely tired. It’s how you feel when.

It’s what you do when you need a place to live but don’t have your own flat or house. It’s what you do when.

It’s the thing that holds the door open. It’s the thing that.

Secondly, you can openly ask, for instance:

What do you call it?
Sorry, what do you say when you’re very tired?

You can also ask the person you speak with for some patience, for time, because you’re trying to remember something. Example phrases:

It’ll come back to me, I promise.

I just need something to jog my memory. That means, I need something that will help me remember, I need some time and it will come back to me.

Give me a second to gather my thoughts.

Finally, you can tell the person you talk to that you don’t remember the words, for instance:

I can’t  put a name to the emotion I was feeling.

My mind just went blank.

I’ve got nothing, sorry.

I had it and now it’s gone.

I lost it.

Time for practice. Here we go! Listen and repeat the phrases! Let’s go!!

With your fluency. Forgetting words is normal. Fluency is when you continue speaking, expressing yourself, delivering the message even though a word has slipped your mind or if you simply don’t know the word.
