And for now let’s learn to speak English here.

Time to learn 5 idioms that will boost your vocabulary and confidence whether it comes to listening or speaking. Here we go:

One. To see eye to eye.

To share the same views as somebody about something. if two people see eye to eye, they agree with each other, to be in agreement. For instance:

We’ve never seen eye to eye about this matter.

I don’t always see eye to eye with my father.

Two. I feel at home here.

To feel at home. To feel as relaxed as one does in one’s own home or in a place or situation one knows well. to feel comfortable in a place or with a person. You can also be at home with someone. For instance:

I’m already feeling at home in the new apartment.

I’m quite at home with animals, I grew up on a farm.

Three. It holds the key to solving the problem.

To hold the key. To have control of something. This phrase is used to refer to the solution to a problem or to the answer to a mystery. Here are two examples:

The patient himself holds the key to recovery.

Local community groups hold the key to the elections.

Four. She flew off the handle.

To fly off the handle. To suddenly become very angry. To react in a very angry way to something that someone says or does. For instance:

He flew off the handle at the slightest thing.

Ana flew off the handle and she realizes that.

Five. I’m sitting on the fence.

To sit on the fence. To avoid saying which side of an argument you support or what your opinion is about a particular subject. To delay making a decision. To avoid becoming involved in deciding or influencing something.

He tends to sit on the fence at meetings.

You can’t sit on the fence any longer – you have to decide.

Time for practice. Listen to the sentences once again and repeat them out loud. Ok? We have a deal, let’s go:

We’ve never seen eye to eye about this matter.

I don’t always see eye to eye with my father.

I’m already feeling at home in the new apartment.

I’m quite at home with animals, I grew up on a farm.

The patient himself holds the key to recovery.

Local community groups hold the key to the elections.

He flew off the handle at the slightest thing.

Ana flew off the handle and she realizes that.

He tends to sit on the fence at meetings.

You can’t sit on the fence any longer – you have to decide.
